Interview with Jaimi-Lee Fitzgerald, Pilates&Barre Instructor and Founder of Land Essentials
We were thrilled to have Pilates Instructor and LAND Essentials owner Jaimi-Lee Fitzgerald choose a L’eto gown for her upcoming wedding. With a Diploma in Health Science and a beautiful wellness brand, we wanted to learn more about how she is preparing physically, mentally and spiritually to feel her best for her upcoming nuptials.
For those who don’t know you, can you share a little more about yourself and what you do?
I’m a Pilates Instructor and owner of the wellness brand LAND Essentials. I live by the water in Salamander Bay just north of Newcastle with my fiancé Dave. I absolutely love nature, hiking and cooking over the fire on the weekend. I’m a really big believer in creating a life you don’t need a holiday from, so that really underpins everything that I do, we live a really slow life here; nothing beats being by the water.
The only thing I really love doing that isn’t connected to nature is Pinteresting; I love jumping on Pinterest and spending hours on there planning a trip or planning our future home, it’s such a great creative outlet for me.
How did you get into Pilates and teaching?
I’ve been doing Pilates for over 10 years now after falling in love with Barre Pilates as a mode of movement. During Covid I decided to do my Teacher Training which was facilitated through the studio I was practising at, who then in turn hired me to work. I teach mostly older people and I really love it, it’s such a rewarding career.
Can you share your pre-wedding exercise and self care routine?
Each morning I have a cup of warm lemon water, followed by a homemade pour-over coffee with ghee and reishi. The reishi offsets the anxious feeling you sometimes get with caffeine and adding fat (ghee) makes the coffee much kinder to my hormones.
Each day I also make sure to do some form of movement, whether it's a walk, the gym or Pilates, depending on how much time I have and how I feel on the day. I also love to enjoy a sauna once a week to support lymphatic drainage.
On Supplements…
I do love to lean on a few supplements to bolster me throughout the day which I find makes a big difference to how I look and feel.
I don’t tend to reach for collagen supplements as I am more inclined to drink some homemade bone broth whenever I feel I need the ‘pick-me-up’. I aim to drink about 3-4 litres of water a day since my days are so active.
Jaimi-Lee’s Favourite Daily Supplements:
LAND Essentials Daily Lemon (Ritual) | In the morning in hot water, sipped like tea, for vitamin C, digestion and immune function.
LAND Essentials Marine Coconut (Hydration) | Natural electrolytes, stirred through cold water and sipped morning/noon/night/whenever I feel like a deeper hit of hydration or a good sleep. Also highly recommended to combat hangovers, a good one for balance in daily life & also before / during / after the wedding day.
Superfeast Reishi | In my morning coffee helps with anxiety and helps with women's hormone balance.
Whole Health Studio Balance Hormone Tablets | For hormone support, a god send!
On Skincare…
I try to keep my skincare routine very simple and utilise natural products, but I am investing in a few more facials then usual, focusing on gentle and natural approaches to support skin renewal. The biggest thing for me though is focusing on my internal health, as this directly correlates to how I feel and how my skin looks.
Jaimi-Lee’s Favourite Skincare Products:
Yay For Earth Sensitive Skin Face Lotion | An all-natural face lotion I also use on cuticles, bug bites, and skin irritation.
Yay For Earth Golden Body Oil | An all-natural body oil that is deeply nourishing.
I also use a good high quality therapeutic fish oil, however there are many good brands out there for this.
What are your favourite foods that you love and make you feel strong and healthy?
For me I really love oysters, red fish/salmon, eggs and grapefruit. Oysters are full of zinc and magnesium which is excellent for our skin and brain health. I notice a difference in my skin almost immediately when eating oysters and lots of fresh salmon. I’m such a believer in investing in really good quality, healthy foods that make you feel good.
What self-care tools are you utilising to support you through what can sometimes be a stressful season of preparation and anticipation?
My biggest fear is waking up on my wedding and not looking and feeling my best, so I am making sure to lean into Pilates and other movement practices to help me feel balanced out. It comes from a place of feeling mentally and emotionally strong so I can show up on my wedding day feeling my best.
I really love frequent saunas, and have just recently been doing ice-baths which is helping a lot with inflammation, so I’m being quite religious with that as well. I’m also amping up dry body brushing and using a good body oil to help my skin feel its best. I’m also limiting sugar and leaning into wholefoods as much as possible.
I also recently completed my Human Design chart here, and it's changed my life in terms of realising how I truly thrive in work, and social environments. I've found it really grounding yet eye-opening, and it's allowed me to lean into who I truly am. It's allowed me to really level myself out during this planning process!
Do you have any suggestions for exercise regimes for time-poor brides?
For time poor brides I would recommend finding an online exercise program you can do in your own time. There are so many online Pilates instructors, so find one you like and spend 15 minutes to get your heart rate up. I would also recommend going for a walk after dinner with your partner if you can, it’s such a nice thing to do in the evening and also helps to regulate your blood sugar and helps your body prepare for sleep.
Find exercise you love, whether it’s swimming, going to the gym or Pilates. Find something you love so you can enjoy it and stick with it.
Jaimi-Lee’s Favourite Online Pilates Programs:
The House of Sculpt online platform has an amazing array of short and long form workouts for the time-poor bride.
If brides want to do a personalised online Pilates or Barre program in the lead up to their big day, get in touch with me at ROAM Pilates. I do 2:1 and 1:1 online classes by appointment.
We love seeing your dreamy travel imagery on the LAND insta! Where is your dream honeymoon destination?
We are planning a trip to Tasmania, we are going to spend a few days doing an off-grid hike followed by a few days in a hotel, enjoying a more luxurious experience so we have a bit of both. We were also thinking of going to Rottnest Island, we went last year and absolutely loved it, so are also considering going back there.
If I were to pick an overseas destination it would be Mallorca, Spain. I’ve been there for work before and I absolutely loved it, it’s a slower pace, you get the best things about the country in the tiny island which is amazing.
